WHO ARE THEY ??

ODD MAN OUT BIOGRAPHY

Odd Man Out is an original rock band from the Philadelphia area. Having formed in the fall of 2003, Odd Man Out has established themselves as a respected act on the Philly club scene. Combining their musical influences, the band captivates a classic rock sound thru their own unique style. The powerful vocals and versatile rhythm section are the anchors to the lyrical - rich songs. Odd Man Out have just released their first independent CD entitled, “Inverse Element”.  The band’s current performances also include over five CD’s worth of previously recorded material, from three of its members, who were previously in the band Tomfoolery.

Odd Man Out’s trademark sound is built around the singing and songwriting of guitarist / singer Ed Ludwig. His diverse inspirations range from the versatility of Bobby Darin to the mood settings of Jim Morrison. The explosive finishes in “Emptiness” and “In the Streets,” along with the humor in “Blue House, Red Light Row,” are always head turners when done live. With an intense and energetic vocal style, Ed sings his songs from the heart.

First half of the rhythm section is drummer Fran Rapposelli . From the manic aggressiveness of Keith Moon to the innovative styles of Simon Phillips, Fran brings his influences to life in Odd Man Out. This drummer has blended many styles into one, which contributes to the band’s unique, diverse sound. Whether he’s driving an all out rocker or swinging to the backbeat, Fran’s creative playing is at the foundation of an Odd Man Out song.

The other half of the rhythm section for Odd Man Out is bass player Ken Magas. Influenced by the precision of Geddy Lee and the impact of John Entwhistle, Ken plays with a Jazz /Rock demeanor. He can lay down a smooth bass line that erupts into a fiery run. This playing style captures the essence of the music and these spicy fills have brought a kick to many of the songs.

Guitarist Darren Carango had previously led his own band, Riff Raff. Their Local club success in southeastern, Pennsylvania included a twin billing with veteran rockers Foghat at the Kenwood Rock Club. His influences range from NYC legends The Dictators, to the late Irish blues rocker, Rory Gallagher. Darren brings to Odd Man Out a “timeless blues-rock style” that is missing from today’s music.

Odd Man Out have set themselves apart from the other area bands with their own unique style & sound. Their well-written songs have a classic feel to them along with some pleasant surprises. From their self-produced studio recordings to the stage, Odd Man Out continues to develop their own standards on the music scene.
